Dr. James Kirimi Wanjagi is currently the Acting CEO | Business Transformational Lead at the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB). With over 25 years of extensive “marketplace experience” James’s experience is at the convergence of Leadership, FinTech, Technology, Strategy, Banking and Academia. He has held roles that have included, Strategy Director at National Bank of Kenya, Senior Faculty / Regional Lead, Academic Director at SBS, Lead Strategy Consultant at Strathmore Business School (SBS), Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Mobile Decisioning (Fin-Tech) company headquartered in Nairobi with 28 operations across EMEA region); and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Echo Mobile (a company that offers powerful mobile tools for data-driven decisions).
While living and working in North America, James held several roles including – Associate Vice-President of IT at Phillips Services Corporation (Atlanta, USA), and Senior Projects Director, Convergys Corporation. Other senior short-term roles included Senior Project Consultant at Anadarko Petroleum, Cameron International, Aviva Annuities, and Wells Fargo. James is passionate about Technology, Strategy, Academia, and Leadership. While at Strathmore Business School (SBS), he taught in numerous MBA business program units including – MIS, HMIS, Project Management, Project Planning and Management, Change Management, Organizational Theory, and Operations Management. James has also taught in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda on topics that included – Leadership, Organizational Theory, Emotional Intelligence, Strategy and Competitiveness, Emerging Technologies Change Management, Project Management, Emerging Technologies, and Digital Transformation. In addition, James taught various boards (private and public organizations) on Leadership, Governance, Strategy, Board Effectiveness, Boards and Technology and other Board topics.
James is very passionate about organizational leadership and technology practices. He in a people-oriented approach based on the idea that motivated employees are likely to be more effective and productive. Over his career James has led over 300 individuals directly, 100 indirectly, and trained close to 500 individuals on leadership and technology related disciplines
Finally, James believes that coaching and mentoring leaders across the region – inspiring them to unlock their full career potential, is the key to transforming professionals in the Africa region
